Story book Stein am Rein.

 

This past week I was lucky enough to visit the charming little town of Stein am Rhein in Northeastern Switzerland.

I managed to swap my Shang Hai flight for Zurich and traveled by train, solo to the medieval town that I had wanted to visit for so long.

Once I landed into Zurich I quickly showered, washed my hair and left for the shuttle bus that would take me to Zurich Flughafen. I had to change to a different train once I got to Schaffhausen and then it was straight to Stein am Rein.

As soon as I found myself in sight of the quaint little houses that surrounded the rivers edge I knew that I made the right choice to come all this way.

Stein am Rein is originally a fishing village that was developed back in the 11th Century and is known for preserving its medieval buildings until this day.

With no more than 3,000 residents in the area, it is known as a small village but boasts remarkable architecture and magnificent painted buildings and houses.

Perfection is the word that I want to include in this blog because that is how I saw this place, it reminded me so much of Lucerne which I was blessed to be able to visit a few months ago with my husband and family.

I would have loved to have explored and learned more about this magical village, but I didn’t have much time as it was a twenty four hour layover and I was already pretty tired from the flight and from not having enough rest before hand.

For any of you who decide to visit this charming spot in Switzerland, be sure to take your time and wander the many allies that branch off of the main street in Stein am Rein as you will come across dainty little cafes and many other paintings on the walls.

One of the highlights of the village has to be its location, Stein am Rein sits on either side of the riverbank which eventually leads to Rhine Falls. Although I was lucky enough to see the falls on my train ride home which was awesome!

Grab a coffee or snack and sit along the river bed and watch the children play in the water and gaze your eyes on the many ducks and birds gliding on the water.

Just so you guys are aware, it is easier to access by car and you will be able to visit the other neighbouring villages that surround Stein am Rein, it takes around 40 minutes and then 1 hour 20, maybe 30 by train.
